While comments posted on Web sites are typically NOT as well-written nor as unbiased as the blogs written by subject matter experts, occasionally a stream of posts will highlight well the many sides of a controversial issue. Although often tough to navigate they can be worth the effort. We include a few here and will add others as they come to our attention.
The decline of antivirus and the rise of whitelisting
Robin Bloor (Analyst- Hurwitz & Associates) - June 27, 2007
As both NAC and anti-virus vendors add application whitelisting to their endpoint security products in order to fight the propagation of new malware, some analysts and vendors are projecting that AV will become irrelevant. This provocative view is rejected by others who believe it reflects either naive, wishful or biased thinking. Robin's analysis in The Register stimulates a rather long and sometimes imformative discussion. Before you review or contribute to it we recommend you read the blog rise of whitelisting by Kurt Wismer. Kurt provides an excellent overview of this issue. He also responds to Robin's analysis in a more recent blog.
